Personal Protection Courses

Teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol responsibly, and with confidence.

The NRA Defensive Pistol Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, use of pocket pistols, and more. Defensive Pistol starts with time in the classroom covering and reviewing defensive topics. Upon successful completion of holster draw training, you will transition to the range for continued education of defensive skills. Students will spend a minimum three-hours classroom, and four-hours of live fire range exercises, utilizing approximately 250 rounds of ammunition. .
Note: You must have basic handgun knowledge and be able to demonstrate how to safely use your firearm. This is an intermediate level training class. You should already be proficient and safe with your handgun, prior to taking this class. Students should have at minimum, taken our Basics of Pistol, and should consider our Concealed Carry training prior. Defensive Requirements

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment. This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 200 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.

This course is based on the practical application of the AR-15 carbine in competitive and combative environments. You’ll learn how to improve your accuracy and how to keep your carbine up and running with quick and efficient reloading and malfunction clearing techniques. You’ll also become proficient on how to move and shoot while using identifying targets, and at the end of the day you’ll get to put your skills to the test with our unique and challenging Marksmanship.
8 Hours of Range Instruction Includes: Equipment Selection and Maintenance, Fundamentals of Marksmanship, Ready ups, Effective Loading and Malfunction Clearances, Shooting and Moving Qualification.

Defensive Pistol II picks up where Defensive Pistol lets off.

The Defensive Pistol II Course will continue focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. Students will have a deeper understanding on how to apply the Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, change in positions and a final timed stage of moving and shooting.
Defensive Pistol starts with a brief 1-hour classroom session covering and reviewing defensive topics. Upon successful review of holster draw techniques, you will transition to the range for continued education of defensive skills. This will be six-hours of live fire range exercises, utilizing approximately 400 rounds of ammunition, with moving and shooting from multiple positions and location.
Note: You must have comprehensive handgun knowledge and be able to demonstrate how to safely use your firearm. This is an advanced level training class. You should already be proficient and safe with your handgun, prior to taking this class. Students must complete Defensive Pistol 1 or equivalent defensive pistol training prior to enrollment into this course.

Teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.
Prerequisite: This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess NRA Defensive Pistol or defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Defensive Pistol or NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.
Description: The course is divided into two levels. Level one (Day-1) is nine-hours and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Upon completion, students will attend level two (Day-2), which is an additional classroom and range time.​

This is an 8-hour class. An introduction to using pump or semi auto shotguns for self defense/home defense, a highly effective defensive tool. Learn how to run your shotgun as if your life depends on it. Discussion and lessons on pros and cons of the platform, setting up the gun, sights, ammo selection, patterning for your needs, controlling recoil and loading the gun under pressure. This is an intermediate level shotgun class. Students should be familiar with the platform.
